Don’t cut subsidies for green electricity, FSB warns
The FSB, with a coalition of green, countryside and housing groups, has warned Energy Secretary Chris Huhne not to cut subsidies for green electricity and heating as part of the government's spending review. In a letter to the Secretary of State for Energy, signed by David Caro, Chair of the FSB Environment Committee, the group warns that cutting schemes that subsidise household generation of renewable energy would jeopardise job creation, energy security and greenhouse gas targets. Read the letter and an article in The Guardian.

2011 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise
The deadline for entries for the 2011 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is 29 October 2010. The three award categories of International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development are open to businesses employing at least two full time employees or part-time equivalents that are based in the UK and can demonstrate commercial success. Additionally, there is an individual award for Enterprise Promotion. Find out more about the awards and how to enter.

Case studies

Fraud alert
The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau is warning FSB members that small businesses such as driving schools and bakeries, sports clubs are being targeted by individuals requesting payment for advertising in a police crime prevention yearbook. The suspect will say that agreement for the entry was gained over the phone and that payment is now due, and in some cases will then send an invoice. Contact the police if you have any information or think you have been a victim and let us know your experiences.

Business Continuity Toolkit
RISCAuthority has released a downloadable update of its free Business Continuity Software package ROBUST (Resilient Business Software Toolkit). The package was released last year to help the small firms produce effective Business Continuity Plans quickly and efficiently, and is now used by over 2,000 companies in the UK.
